In 1995, the Prickly Pear Cactus was named the state plant of Texas! Frequently seen in fields and along roadways in Central Texas, the Prickly Pear can also be found clinging to cliffs, emerging from cracks in rocks, and even growing from the trees. The mighty Saguaro, though often associated with the Southwest, is not native to our state. The real cactus of Texas is the Prickly Pear.
“A Sticky Situation” was painted from a photograph taken by one of the CBC artists of the cactus which grow near her home in the countryside west of Fort Worth. The 9 canvases were painted by 9 different artists, each initialed discreetly, and framed together to create a dynamic piece of fine art. The frame is a sturdy wooden one custom-built for CBC, with a French cleat hanging system that allows the heavy piece to hang evenly and flush with the wall. The framed painting measures 37” X 37” and weighs 33 lbs. Each Canvas by Canvas painting comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and for its owner this painting will remain a favorite work of art for generations.
